The companies & contacts sub-modules are where you maintain your companies contacts, customers, clients, suppliers or however you refer to the people you work with. A separate company and contact relational database is maintained in order to minimise on duplication.
A company record for example can have any number of contacts associated to it. This way if any company information changes you only need to modify one record.
